It&#8217;s a deliberately unsubtle introduction to a deliberately unsubtle city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The car was waiting on the arrivals level, which at Reagan National is a genuine convenience rather than a small miracle, given how compact the airport is compared to the last two. I&#8217;d booked the same way as before, through the same <a href=\"https:\/\/limotak.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">airport transfer service<\/a>, and it was starting to feel less like a choice I kept making and more like the default I&#8217;d stopped questioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Crossing the River<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18-1024x612.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18-1024x612.webp 1024w, https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18-300x179.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18-768x459.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18-500x300.webp 500w, https:\/\/www.getlisteduae.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/LimotakLondon18.webp 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The drive from the airport into the city crosses the Potomac directly, monuments visible almost immediately \u2014 the way Washington front-loads its landmarks is unlike anywhere else on this trip so far. The driver knew to avoid the worst of the afternoon traffic around the bridges, taking a route that put us at the hotel in Georgetown with time to spare before dinner, no detours, no explaining twice where we were headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Capitol at Golden Hour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I timed a walk toward the Capitol for early evening, when the dome catches the last of the light and turns a shade of white that photographs consistently fail to reproduce. Unlike London, which makes you work slightly to notice its history, Washington puts everything on display at once \u2014 wide avenues built explicitly for the view, buildings that all seem to know they&#8217;re being looked at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Georgetown afterwards was a different register entirely: cobblestone streets, restaurants without much signage, and a version of American wealth that prefers old brick to new glass. Dinner ran long, the way it does when nobody at the table is checking a watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next morning I walked the Mall properly, start to end, past the Lincoln Memorial and along the reflecting pool while the city was still mostly empty of tourists. There&#8217;s a particular kind of quiet to Washington before nine in the morning \u2014 wide, deliberate streets with almost no one on them, government buildings holding still in a way that feels less like emptiness and more like the city catching its breath before the day starts properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Stop: Miami<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two days felt correct for Washington \u2014 enough to walk the Mall once properly and understand why the city is built the way it is, not so long that the trip loses momentum. The transfer to Reagan National the next morning was, as with every leg so far, exactly where it should have been. Miami is next, and after three cities built around history and restraint, I suspect it will be built around neither.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n        <div
