International Medical Aid (IMA) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization whose model was developed at Johns Hopkins University, with a focus on advancing healthcare education, global health, and experiential learning for aspiring healthcare professionals. Through structured international medical internship programs, IMA provides students with hands-on exposure to clinical care, community health initiatives, and diverse healthcare systems in partnership with hospitals, clinicians, and community organizations in resource-limited settings.
IMA serves students pursuing careers in medicine, nursing, dentistry, physician assistant studies, public health, mental health, physical therapy, and other healthcare disciplines. Programs combine supervised clinical observation, mentorship, cultural immersion, and community-based health initiatives designed to help participants develop a broader understanding of healthcare delivery, health disparities, and the social determinants of health.
