The customers will not be charged for the tickets if they cancel within a period of 24 hours of the original booking but a cancellation fee will be charged after this time period. The cancellation fee according to the type of tickets are given below:-

Basic Economy Ticket: The American airlines basic economy tickets are not allowed to be canceled unless you cancel it within 24 hours of the booking. Although, if American Airlines changes your flight by 61 minutes or more, your traveling companion dies or you have certain kind of military orders, in such situations you can apply for a refund.

Non-Refundable Ticket: American Airlines charges $200 for domestic flights and $750 for International flights. Even nonrefundable tickets can be refunded if the passenger or the traveling companion dies or there are certain military orders.

Refundable Ticket: In case of a refundable ticket flight cancellation can be done anytime before the departure of your flight. The refund will be transferred to your account within 7 days.

Award Ticket: If you book a ticket with Aadvantage miles, the cancellation will cost you $150 for the first award and $25 for every additional reward.
